I think the use of fabrics in modern quilting has changed quite a lot since we started our Modern Quilt Guild. Overseas I see that there is a lot more solid fabrics being used, but here we still seem to be using it pre-dominantly mixed in with our prints. Other fabric trends that i have noticed include:
- the fabric is often the feature of the quilt rather than the actual pieced design
- celebrity designers of fabric are followed more closely through their Blogs and fabric ranges
- as I said above more and more solids are being used – sometimes with no print fabric being included
- designs on hte fabric have become much bolder
- there are still sweet novelty prints being released and used under the name of modern quilting
- graphic and geometric prints are popular – every range seems to have them included in a big way
- realistic floral prints are seldom see – flowery prints are now more stylised
- there is a much more eclectic mix of fabrics used within one quilt

so modern quilting is more about colour than style – too bad the pinks are a bit naff!
